About

As a conceptually and philosophically driven visual artist, I work with different media including text, flour, installation, film and print.

My work can be playful in the way that it explores the everyday relationships between language and thought, how language can divide or unify, give love or hurt like sticks and stones. I try to make sense of how language and text can form our belief systems, change perspectives, cover up or displace reality or reveal the truth. I am fascinated by the dichotomy of the human condition of having both the gift and burden of conscious thought, language and ideas.

As well as being curious about the things we generally can’t see like love, sound, memory and much of reality, I find inspiration from  the relationships between Maths, Philosophy and Science and that there are at least 360 ways of looking at anything and everything. Finished pieces often respond to this infinite platform of possibilities by being simple, geometric or circular in form.

Fi has an International working career which began with 9 years on the East Coast of the States.  Since returning to the UK, her work has been exhibited in London, Berlin, Bristol, Derby and Nottingham. With recent works in Cork Street and The Royal West Academy.

Influenced by Eastern Philosophies, Fi’s work explores relationships with cultural existence, regardless of religion.   She often uses the familiar staples of flour and bread to consider how easily language can be ‘ingested’ like the ‘daily slice’.

Fi seeks to find simplicity from the seemingly complex and to value the emphemeral.

When not in her studio, she works as an independent freelance Creative Learning Mentor & Trainer using the positive power of creativity to support young people and adults of all ages and abilities to develop their creative talents and emotional wellbeing. Fi also runs art courses out of her studio, for more information, please go to:

I really value the creative process itself; the exciting and often serendipitous journey that takes place into the unknown that lies between the initial concepts and their later realisation into finished work. This embracing approach enables development of different and surprising forms which is why I work with a variety of media.
